A Carbondale woman is facing child endangerment charges after police say she beat her 9-year-old grandson and held his arm under hot water to punish him for making a mess in a bathroom.

Jeanne Lisi, 56, 15 Thorn St., was charged Monday with endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment in connection with an incident at her home Sunday.

According to an arrest affidavit, school officials contacted authorities Monday after they noticed the boy, who was complaining of head pain, had a swollen nose and red marks on his head. Questioned by police, the boy said Lisi told him not to talk about what happened or he would go to foster care.

Carbondale police Officer Tim Mackrell went to Lisi’s home and spoke to her adult stepson, Giovan Lisi, who said Jeanne Lisi became angry after she discovered the boy made a mess in the bathroom sink while playing with shampoo and a razor. He said she struck the boy and pushed him up against a shower, then pulled out his arm and ran it under hot and cold water to punish him.

The child was taken into protective custody Monday. A medical exam revealed he had numerous abrasions and bruises on his body. Police interviewed Jeanne Lisi, who denied assaulting the boy.

She was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Sean McGraw and taken to Lackawanna County Prison after she was unable to post $10,000 bail. She faces a preliminary hearing 10:30 a.m. Nov. 13.
