SCRANTON — Vince Hutchinson saw a silver Buick in his rear view mirror, heard “pop, pop, pop” and dropped his head.
Glass shattered.
He pressed his foot on the gas.
Hutchinson’s testimony came during about an hour-long preliminary hearing Wednesday for Aumont “Monty” Edwards, who was charged for the June 26 shooting on South 10th Avenue and Oxford Street.
Magisterial District Judge Paul Keeler found prosecutors with the Lackawanna County district attorney’s office presented enough evidence to see Edwards, 31, of 1511 W. Locust St., stand trial on charges of criminal conspiracy and related counts.
Hutchinson testified Edwards followed him and a passenger, Nicholas Radocesky, through the city.
Edwards was on the run for two months.
After the Scranton Police Department Street Crimes Unit determined that Edwards was at a Prospect Avenue home Aug. 28, patrolman Kyle Gilmartin contacted a state parole agent, who determined that Shakile Brooks, 44, lived there.
Police surrounded 615 Prospect Ave., Apt. 1S and Brooks opened the door. He said Edwards was in the back room.
Officers handcuffed Edwards and Brooks, who said he knew Edwards was wanted.
Keeler ordered that Brooks stand trial on charges of hindering apprehension.
Hutchinson identified Edwards in court, but said he had dark hair at the time of the alleged shooting, not red as he did during the hearing.
During the hearing, First Assistant Public Defender Joseph Kalinowski argued there wasn’t sufficient evidence that Edwards knew shots would be fired or even if the shots were fired from his car.
Edwards is jailed at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $101,000 bail.
