HAZLETON — A Scranton man faces charges after police said he used a stolen credit card to buy beer and cigarettes in Hazleton then fled when police spotted him Wednesday night.
A woman came to the police station around 6 p.m. to report her pilfered bank card was used at a store on Alter Street. Officers learned that Kareem Shelton, 22, of 414 Willow St., had used the card to buy a 24-pack of beer and two packs of cigarettes and signed her name on the receipt without her permission.
An officer on patrol spotted Shelton around 7 p.m. and ordered him to stop. Instead, he fled into a nearby home. Police found him hiding in a bedroom closet and arrested him after a struggle.
Shelton faces a felony for forgery and misdemeanors for access device fraud, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. He was also wanted on a warrant by the Luzerne County Sheriff’s Department. He remains in Luzerne County Correctional Facility.
