Toomey sees Senate race as toss-up
HARRISBURG - Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey rates the Casey-Smith race for Pennsylvania's other Senate seat as a toss-up.
"It looks like it's basically a tied race right now," said Mr. Toomey, referring to recent public opinion polls showing a close margin between Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Casey and Republican challenger Tom Smith. Mr. Toomey spoke during a speech Monday before the Pennsylvania Press Club.
Mr. Toomey said he supports Mr. Smith, who he said has run a remarkable race.
The senator said he has a high personal regard for Mr. Casey, but disagrees with his politics.
"Sen. Casey and I get along great personally," he added.
The two have worked closely to fill vacancies on the District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, said Mr. Toomey.
