MOSCOW - Honesdale-based Leeward Construction submitted a bid to reconstruct Van Brunt Street's sidewalk, curbs and drainage systems this summer that was less than half the next-lowest proposal.
Borough council opened Leeward's $50,200 bid at a special meeting Tuesday, along with proposals from five other firms to get the ball rolling on $500,035 worth of infrastructure upgrades that are expected to continue into the fall.
The work is to be funded by a state Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant, and in grant documents, the Van Brunt Street work was estimated to cost $94,681.
Other work highlighted in that budget is $135,950 to repair the roof of the Municipal Building, $191,842 for work on Main Street's sidewalks, $12,577 to add division walls to the public works garage to shield workers from the cold, $54,400 to renovate the exterior of the public works building and $10,585 to fence off the recycling center.
Leeward submitted a $36,800 bid for a project alternate to install period street lighting and $39,700 for another alternate to reconstruct Van Brunt Street's pavement.
Other bids were $140,933 from Wayco plus $34,710 and $32,623 on the alternates; $116,600 from American Asphalt plus $32,200 and $27,500 on the alternates; $139,479 from Kobalt Construction plus $24,000 and $47,779 on the alternates; $167,000 from Chilewski Enterprises plus $35,000 and $40,000 on the alternates; and $134,716 from Popple Construction plus $35,420 and $29,234 on the alternates.
Council President Arthur Pencek said the borough's engineer will review the bids, and council will likely approve a contract next month.
