Glenburn delays action on boardwalk
GLENBURN TWP. - Officials need more answers before allowing a joint recreation board to submit an estimated $200,000 grant application through the township.
At Monday's meeting, Glenburn Twp. supervisors chose not to act on the board's request, saying they first need to know how much the township would pay, as well as its responsibilities and liabilities.
The grant money would fund the construction of a boardwalk along Eston Wilson Lake on Winola Road in South Abington Twp.
"We need to make sure that we understand what the amount of the grant is, what the cost is for us and the type of work required," township solicitor Malcolm MacGregor said. He said township officials have supported the board's projects at Hillside Park, formerly known as the Abington Area Community Park.
When applying for a grant, the board has to apply through one of the five municipalities that send annual donations to support the park, Supervisor Bill Wicks said.
Along with Glenburn, Clarks Summit, South Abington Twp., Waverly Twp. and Clarks Green make contributions.
"It's our turn," said Mr. Wicks, who said the board last submitted a grant through Clarks Green.
Supervisors plan to reach out to the board's grant writer for more information.
