SCRANTON - The federal trial of a Florida man charged with attempting to hire a former cellmate to kill his wife has been scheduled for Sept. 30.
Edward McLaughlin was scheduled to go on trial June 24, but his attorney requested a continuance. The motion was granted Friday.
Mr. McLaughlin was indicted last year on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and several other offenses. Prosecutors said he tried to hire Gary Williams of Scranton to kill his wife, Joanna Van Tine of Wayne County. Mr. Williams' trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 19.
