Special Mass celebrated today
SCRANTON - Bishop Joseph Bambera will be celebrating World Mission Sunday today at 12:15 p.m. with a special Eucharist at St. Peter's Cathedral, officials with the Diocese of Scranton announced.
At the Mass, mission certificates will be presented to schools and parish religious education programs in recognition of missionary activity for the 2011-12 school year.
The annual celebration is sponsored by the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, Pontifical Mission Societies and the Diocese of Scranton Office for Parish Life. The Mass will be televised live by CTV: Catholic Television.
After the Mass, lunch will be served in the auditorium of the former Holy Cross building.
