OLYPHANT - A new code enforcement officer was approved at a council meeting Tuesday.

In a unanimous vote, council appointed Eugene Walsh to replace Mark MacDonald, whose resignation letter was read at the same meeting. Mr. Walsh will earn $15 an hour for 20 hours per week with no mileage stipend. Mr. Walsh previously served as code enforcement officer in Dunmore, according to Councilwoman Dina Harrington.

Mr. MacDonald was appointed to the position in October, one month after the council voted to terminate the previous officer.

Also at the meeting, council approved a $7,515 proposal for construction of the girls softball dugout at the Fern Hill Park.

Councilmen Michael Abda and Dave Mitchko were absent from Tuesday's meeting, which was continued to June 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Ms. Harrington, who made the motion to continue, said there were a lot of things she wanted to discuss when the full council was present.
