Hearing held for fired county worker
WILKES-BARRE - Luzerne County acting chief solicitor Vito DeLuca defended the termination of Leonard Piazza during a contentious hearing Friday, explaining Mr. Piazza targeted the county controller with a request to examine campaign-finance records.
Mr. Piazza, the former board of elections director, requested the name-clearing hearing and claimed he was just doing his job to enforce campaign-finance requirements.
County Manager Robert Lawton didn't make a decision after Friday's hearing and took the matter under advisement.
Mr. DeLuca and Mr. Piazza were the only witnesses to testify at the hearing, which provided the first public comments on the official reason for Mr. Piazza's termination from his $56,811-a-year position April 11.
