Officer charged with theft resigns
SCRANTON - A city police officer cited earlier this year for retail theft resigned on Thursday.
Mayor Chris Doherty confirmed that Derek Anderson's resignation from the Police Department became effective Friday.
A seven-year veteran of the department, Mr. Anderson, 28, was suspended after the Lackawanna County district attorney's office cited him for stealing $58.66 worth of meat and cheese from Gerrity's Market, Meadow Avenue, earlier this year.
