County job fair taking shape
Forty-four employers with 1,300 available positions have signed on for the 2013 Lackawanna County Job Fair with four weeks still to go.
Commissioners Corey O'Brien and Jim Wansacz said Friday they expect both numbers to grow before the free event on June 13 from 1 to 6 p.m. at PNC Field on Montage Mountain Road.
"As we have said, we want to do everything we can to create economic opportunity," Mr. Wansacz said. "One of the first things we learned is people are not familiar with the jobs that are available and the companies that are hiring."
The job fair will feature employers, most of them based in Lackawanna County, that have openings to fill "right now," the commissioner said.
For that reason, job-seekers should come to the fair prepared, with copies of their resumes and dressed appropriately, as some companies will be conducting interviews and hiring on the spot for full-time, part-time and seasonal positions, Mr. O'Brien said.
"This is going to be a daylong opportunity for residents who are looking to improve their careers to talk to employers across multiple industry sectors all at one time," he said.
In addition to employers, representatives of Pennsylvania CareerLink will be at the fair to help individuals with the proper techniques for building a resume, said Brian Loughney, county deputy director of human resources.
