Meet David Yatsonsky...
School: North Pocono High School
Parents: Dr. David and Linda Yatsonsky
Plans: To attend the University of Scranton to major in biochemistry and molecular biology, and someday study medicine.
David Yatsonsky wants to follow in his father's footsteps and become a physician who calls Northeast Pennsylvania home.
David will also get his education locally, with plans to attend the University of Scranton on a full-tuition Presidential Scholarship to major in biochemistry and molecular biology. He hopes to pursue medical school after his undergraduate studies, possibly focusing in orthopedics or cardiology, he said.
Whether it be in school or in life, the soon-to-be North Pocono High School graduate draws inspiration from the people closest to him - his family.
"My parents really inspire me. They really push me," David said. "My father has always set an example for me, whether it be my work ethic or faith. He wants me to be the best person I can be."
He is certainly no stranger to work.
With a 4.18 weighted grade-point average, David, who is ranked first in his class, is a leader on the Science Olympiad team, where he earned a medal in the state competition this year. He also is a member of the National Honor Society, an executive officer for Junior Statesmen of America, a member of Latin club, as well as the baseball team, where he was designated hitter and left fielder.
David also finds time to fish, hunt, trap, run his beagle, camp and enjoy the outdoors.
Volunteering at a nursing home at a veterans hospital, as well as the North Pocono Bread Basket Food Pantry, also bring joy to David's days.
"It felt great seeing people in our community benefit from generous donations from other community members, and I had the opportunity to work alongside some great people in our community," he said.
