One barber is dead and another faces a homicide charge after a fight proved fatal Thursday afternoon.
Police responded to Stylez Barber Shop on Route 196 in Coolbaugh Twp. shortly before 3 p.m. for reports of a fight. They found Quentin Thomas, 34, of Tobyhanna, conscious in a chair outside the shop, Pocono Mountain Regional Police Chief Harry Lewis said.
But seconds after police arrived, Mr. Thomas collapsed. Emergency crews immediately transported him to Pocono Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival around 3:40 p.m., Chief Lewis said.
Witnesses originally told police the man involved in the fight fled the scene, but further investigation revealed he was actually one of the supposed witnesses - Shawn Develvet, 48, of Tobyhanna.
Mr. Develvet and Mr. Thomas, co-workers at the barber shop, argued, but then things turned physical, Chief Lewis said.
"The fight caused his death," Chief Davis said of Mr. Thomas.
Mr. Develvet was charged with one open count of homicide, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence and making false reports to police. He was arraigned Thursday night and sent to Monroe County Correction Facility, where he is ineligible for bail.
Mr. Develvet is set for a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning.
