OLYPHANT - Borough police have been tight-lipped about a Friday fight outside of Councilman Jerry Tully's auto repair shop.
A news release issued late Tuesday said the fight is under investigation.
Olyphant police responded to Custom Auto Repair, Burke Bypass, at 2:23 p.m. Friday, for a report of a fight involving four males. No participants are identified in the release, but Jerry Tully, councilman and the owner of the shop, is identified as the person who contacted police.
One injured person was transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center, and remained there Tuesday, the release said. That person has refused to be interviewed, according to the release, which is signed by Acting Chief Louis Kline.
Multiple efforts to reach Chief Kline since the fight were unsuccessful.
Mr. Tully said the fight started because a customer was unhappy over work that had been done at the shop. When the customer "started getting nasty with his language," Mr. Tully told him that he didn't have to pay for the work, but the disagreement escalated and became physical.
According to Mr. Tully, the man "attacked" him and the man's father stepped in. Two other customers also got involved in the scuffle.
Since then, Mr. Tully said there have been many rumors, but was clear that he had not initiated the fight or fought back.
"I think the reason they're being tight-lipped is because of the election," he said of a slow release of information.
Despite the incident, he said that people who know him will not buy into the rumors.
"I try to do the best I can for my community," he said.
