An early morning fire displaced more than a dozen Throop residents Monday, significantly damaging their apartment building.
Crews began battling the fire at 666 Sanderson St. about 3:30 a.m., Fire Chief Eric Hartshorn said. The flames were extinguished in about 45 minutes, but the building sustained smoke and water damage. The left side of the building's second floor appeared to have the most damage.
There were no injuries.
The American Red Cross Lackawanna Chapter temporarily housed 14 people at the Throop Civic Center until the building closed at noon Monday. Two families will continue to receive lodging from the Red Cross; the rest are staying with friends and family.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
"So far, the fire marshal is doing an investigation with the people that lived there," Chief Hartshorn said.
