JESSUP - A borough firefighter injured his knee while battling a fire Saturday that caused minor damage to Library Pizza, Jessup's fire chief said Sunday.
Steve Pitoniak said a dumpster fire that spread to the nearby eatery on Church Street was caused by "careless smoking."
One firefighter fell about 4 feet through the restaurant's basement stairs, the chief said. He would not identify the firefighter or say what the extent of the injury was. He said only that the firefighter was taken to a hospital for X-rays and will "probably be out for a while."
Library Pizza would likely be closed for a couple of days while damage is fixed and the area is cleaned up, the chief said.
