Two with service to Throop
want to serve as its mayor
Two candidates for Throop mayor are competing in the Democratic primary for a place on the general election ballot.
Both Vince Tanana and Wayne Williams have a record of community service in the borough as volunteer firefighters and they share a desire to promote the borough.
Mr. Tanana said he plans to continue and expand public safety programs. He wants to develop Internet crime-prevention programs targeted for youth and seniors and establish a neighborhood-watch program, he said.
"The borough needs to move forward with a spirit of collaboration and cooperation," he said. "My management experience will help me to produce positive change."
Mr. Williams, who has experience writing grants, said he will pursue grants for borough beautification, neighborhood projects, police programs and events for seniors and children.
He pledged to commit the mayor's salary to charitable programs for the community, if elected, he said.
He also wants to promote the borough's image. "I don't think Throop gets enough recognition for the activities that go on within the borough," he said.
