Poverty, health care discussed
SCRANTON - Researchers, doctors and health care professionals on Wednesday discussed the correlation between poverty and poor health - some even offering a way it could be addressed.
"It starts with politics, but you just don't hear them say the word: poverty," said Richard Cooper, M.D., a senior fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania.
Held at the Commonwealth Medical College, the event, titled "Poverty & Poor Health-Changing the Equation," was sponsored by the college and United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania.
