Marywood University's third-year nursing students will have an option to finish their degree at the University of Scranton under an agreement announced today by the two colleges.
The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission recently denied continuing accreditation to Marywood's nursing program, which is also under provisional approval status from the state. The program is currently accredited with conditions, pending the outcome of the school's appeal.
The accredited and state-approved nursing program at the University of Scranton will review transfer applications from third-year Marywood nursing students in good standing, according to a joint statement released by the schools. Accepted students will be placed in an accelerated or traditional track with the potential to graduate in May or August 2014.
"Our primary concern is our students," Marywood President Sister Anne Munley, I.H.M., said and thanked University of Scranton leaders and faculty for "forging this partnership in the best interests of our students."
Marywood officials have said they are confident the school will regain its accreditation through appeal or by seeking accreditation from another body.
