Disgraced former Senate Democratic Leader Robert J. Mellow's name will be stripped from the Lackawanna College theater he helped to build.
The college board of trustees announced the change in a one-sentence press release this morning:
"The Board of Trustees of Lackawanna College met in April 2013 and, after thoughtful consideration, decided to name its theater The Theater at Lackawanna College."
Mr. Mellow is serving a 16-month federal prison sentence on a corruption conviction, and faces state bribery and bid-rigging charges for allegedly steering Pennsylvania Turnpike contracts to favored vendors.
Last month, Blakely officials voted unanimously to change the name of Mellow Park to Blakely Borough Recreation Complex.
Trustees are considering changing the name of the Mellow Center for Athletics and Wellness at Marywood University. The center was named for the senator after he secured nearly $2 million in state grants for the project.
