THROOP - The Mid Valley School Board will eventually pay the Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County, but a proposed budget was not approved at a meeting Wednesday.
The district's contribution to the CTC's 2013-14 budget would have been $526,325, a $53,863 increase from the previous year. The motion failed in a 4-4 vote. Board President Gerald Luchansky, Donna Dixon, Peter Kolcharno and Paul Macknosky voted no. Richard Chowanek, Frank Galli, Martin Walsh and John Bukowski voted yes.
Board member Cathy Jones, whom Ms. Dixon pointed out is the CTC representative from the board, was absent from the meeting.
"We can revisit it," Mr. Macknosky said, explaining that he had more questions about the budget.
The proposed budget included a retirement incentive for Administrative Director Vincent Nallo and assumed Riverside will remain in the consortium. If the district's legal bid to leave the consortium is successful, the remaining eight districts' contributions would increase, Superintendent Randy Parry said.
Also at the meeting, the board and council members from Olyphant, Throop and Dickson City discussed how to share the cost of adding a school resource officer in the elementary school. The boroughs will now submit a formal offer for the board's consideration.
In other business, the board approved:
-â$7,680.84 payment to William Warren for legal services in relation to the elementary renovation, 7-1. Mr. Galli voted no because he didn't think the district was getting its money's worth.
-â$85,537 in added change orders for AJ Demor and a $5,934.98 payment to Tim Keen for consulting services.
-âA five-year food service contract with the Nutrition Group, in a 5-3 vote, with Ms. Dixon, Mr. Kolcharno and Mr. Luchansky voting no because they wanted more information.
