A political newcomer is taking on a six-term incumbent for Greenfield Twp. supervisor.
Tom Cerra, 81, who has been a supervisor since 1975, faces Gerald J. "Jerry" Snyder Jr., 40, for the Democratic nomination for one of three supervisor positions. The term is for six years.
"The township has been running pretty smooth," Mr. Cerra said. "I don't see any problems."
Mr. Snyder said he has concerns about rising crime and drug activity occurring in the township and wants to monitor natural-gas well development and ensure water wells remain safe.
"I want to keep my community in good working order," Mr. Snyder said. "I just want to make sure things keep running smoothly."
Mr. Cerra said there are some gripes in the township about the maintenance of unpaved roads. But during his time as a supervisor, he said, the township has installed sewers, constructed a new Township Building, instituted recycling and built a recreation complex.
Mr. Snyder said he grew up in the township and wants to participate in public affairs.
"I have no gripes that I want to change the world," he said. "I would just like to have a say in what goes on."
