A Scranton man will spend three to 10 years in state prison for two fall robberies after being sentenced by Lackawanna County Judge Vito P. Geroulo on Thursday.
Logan Oprisko, 22, previously pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery, one for holding up Cosmo's Cheesesteaks on Oct. 21 and the other for robbing and beating a McCarthy Flowered Cab driver on Oct. 27.
Several members of Mr. Oprisko's family were present as Lackawanna County sheriff's deputies led him into the courtroom. Considering the crimes, Judge Geroulo said Mr. Oprisko is lucky to still have the support of his family.
"(There's) not much to justify his actions," said his attorney, James Elliot. Drugs led Mr. Oprisko to act in a way he was "not proud of," he said.
Shortly before 5 a.m. on Oct. 27, Mr. Oprisko beat a cab driver with a hammer while Daniel Malpasse, 22, of Scranton, held him with a crowbar, police said. Mr. Malpasse is awaiting trial, according to court documents.
On Oct. 21, Mr. Oprisko entered Cosmo's and pointed a gun at manager Sharon Delguercio, 24, and demanded money, which she gave from the safety deposit box. Ms. Delguercio, however, was in on the plot and pocketed $1,000 for her role in the robbery. She is serving a three-to-18-month sentence in Lackawanna County Prison.
Mr. Oprisko was also ordered to pay a total of $4,316.16 in restitution for his roles in the robberies.
