Fans of the Valley Community Library will find more than just books at an upcoming event.
The annual Books Appetit celebration will include regional fare from local restaurants, raffles from local businesses and a presentation from Chef Melodie Jordan from Keystone College's culinary department.
The event will be held Thursday from 6:30 p.m to 9:30 p.m. at the library at 739 River St. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the library's building fund. To purchase tickets, which are $25 each, call 489-1765.
"The local restaurants have been very generous to us," said library director Mary Barna.
She said attendees can expect delicious food, top-quality raffles and a chance to learn about food and preparation from a local professional.

Clarks Summit
To respect the "gifts of the Earth," Clarks Summit is hosting its annual Earth Day celebration.
Held in downtown Clarks Summit on April 20, the celebration will feature an indoor flea market, street fair, sidewalk sales, earth-friendly vendors and children's recycling workshop.
"It's a great way to honor and respect what we have," Councilwoman Patty Lawler said. The event is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., she said.

Dickson City
Despite lingering chilly weather, the Dickson City Civic Center is looking ahead to summer activities.
There will be an open house on April 21 from noon to 2 p.m., with information about enrolling children in summer camp or preschool for the 2013-14 school year. Summer camp for grades pre-K through 8 begins on June 17 and lasts 10 weeks. Preschool will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from September to May from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. More information may be found at 383-1813.

A retired National Geographic writer and editor will soon share his experiences with students at Keystone College.
On April 16, Priit Vesilind is scheduled to visit Evans Hall, where he will discuss his nearly 30-year career as well as the role of cultural media in keeping citizens educated and informed.
During his career, Mr. Vesilind traveled to a range of places, including Brazil, Albania and East Berlin. He is known for his extensive work in underwater exploration and his 2005 book "Lost Gold of the Republic," which details monetary and archaeological marine salvage in U.S. history.

Moscow Clayworks will hold an opening reception to kick off its fourth season from 4 to 7 p.m. today featuring the art of four local art professors.
Featured in the exhibit are Jean Adams of Wilkes University, Jared Jaffe of Keystone College, Matt Povse of Marywood University and Skip Sensbach of Misericordia.
"These four individuals represent the top of our craft in our area," said owner Frank Goryl.
