A 23-year-old Tunkhannock man pleaded guilty Friday to aggravated assault stemming from physical abuse of his 16-month-old daughter last fall.

Travis E. Darrow faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in state prison, Wyoming County President Judge Russell Shurtleff said.

The judge added that Mr. Darrow's "extreme indifference to the value of human life" could net him a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

Police claimed in court documents that between Oct. 11 and 23, Mr. Darrow had been engaged in physical domestic disputes with his wife, and he struck the baby several times about the forehead, face and abdomen causing visible injury, including a broken arm.

As part of a plea arrangement, simple assault charges for Mr. Darrow's actions against his wife on Oct. 19 were dropped as long as restitution was made.

Judge Shurtleff said Mr. Darrow would be sentenced at a later date. According to court records, Mr. Darrow remains in prison while awaiting his sentencing.
