After startup delays, a new burger restaurant in Dickson City is ready to open next week. Franchisee John Valerio and a team of traveling trainers for the growing Texas-based chain Mooyah Burgers, Fries & Shakes spent the morning Thursday giving pep talks to about two dozen new employees wearing matching gray shirts that read “I love my job” at the 1249 Commerce Blvd. location. From the front of the crowd, one trainer spoke emphatically with a gentle southern drawl. “The only thing I ask you guys to do is go make the experience for the guest different from every other restaurant that you guys go to,” he said. The franchise boasts never-frozen beef and burger buns made in-house, fresh-cut french fries and vegetarian options. Valerio, a Wayne County restaurateur, brings the first Mooyah franchise to Northeast Pennsylvania. “I’m so excited to finally get this open. We had some delays, but here we are. I’m a big fan of the segment (of the restaurant industry). It’s better burgers, and it’s really exciting to be the first location in Pennsylvania,” he said. There are other burger places around, said Valerio’s general manager, Lorianne Zarra. “But what separates us from those guys is we’re a better-burger brand, and we love what we do. We love serving our guests; we don’t call them customers, they’re our guests.” Above: Shaquita Jones, trainer, works the grill as the Mooyah Burgers, Fries & Shakes staff prepares to open.
