State park to host mock rescue
NORTH ABINGTON TWP. - Visitors to Lackawanna State Park can expect to see a search and rescue mission Sunday.
More than 100 emergency responders, police officers and firefighters are expected to show up for a day of mock search and rescue exercises, including a simulated plane crash over the lake, said Richard Bacon, search manager and chief ranger at the park.
There will be multiple dog tracking missions, grid searches, trail sweeps, rope rescues and search assignments throughout the day, and possibly an underwater simulation in which divers would extricate people from an underwater plane crash, Mr. Bacon said.
The training, which will start at 8 a.m. and end around 4 p.m., is a coordinated effort between the state forestry and parks bureaus, Mr. Bacon said.
