Suspicious package reported at Courthouse Square

SCRANTON — City police and its bomb squad responded to a report of suspicious package on the North Washington Street side of Courthouse Square around 12:30 p.m. today, said Lt. Glenn Thomas.

The street was closed and the outside area was evacuated until the bomb squad approached the objected and determined it was an empty duffle bag.

Police cleared the scene and reopened Washington Avenue at about 12:50 p.m.
