Jermyn events committee awards

Commendation plaques were presented to three "idealistic, hardworking, unselfish and community-minded women who nobly served the community ..." when the annual Jermyn Events Awards Dinner was conducted at St. Michael's Center.

Robyn Smith was named the 2013 Volunteer of the Year. Jeanne Reeves Bell got the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Sheila McDermott Wilkes, the Community Service Award. Former state Rep. Ed Staback also was honored during the dinner, "for his unselfish dedication and years of service to Jermyn." Ed was given a Special Commendation.

Committee President Katie Hosie welcomed guests. Mayor Bruce Smallacombe presented the plaques, as Vice President Mary Perrault provided brief background on the awardees and their community accomplishments.

As part the annual and only fundraiser the committee has conducted during the past 20 years, the Events Committee raffle winner was announced.

Committee members said it was a great success, "due to the many local businesses and individuals who so generously participated." Proceeds defray costs of annual projects, including community flower pots, summer and Christmas concerts; and support for local activities and organizations.

Along with Katie and Mary, committee members assisting in the planning of the dinner included Treasurer Donna Stackel, Secretary Beth Chrusch and Walter Avery, Jeanne Bell, Ann Boylan, Betty Connor, Rebecca Hosie, Megan Roberts, Sheila Wilkes, Art Wilson, JoAnne Wilson, Diane Zindell and Ed Zindell.
