Order of Eagles Pre-Purple Day
Members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Scranton are planning for their Pre-Purple Day Party and Health Fair to benefit the Anita Kaufmann Foundation, which promotes epilepsy awareness.
Teresa Barcoski, Carol Cantafio, Gina DeStefano, Grace Catalano, Liz DeStefano, Maria DeStefano, Margaret Elizabeth Hardy and Nan Kearney have organized an afternoon health fair followed by an evening party, featuring a cash bar, discounted food, basket raffles and music by Erthan.

Marine Corps Pvt. Austin J. Benoit, son of Dawn Crum of Honesdale, and Rennie Benoit of Lake Charles, La., has graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Pvt. Benoit is a 2012 graduate of Honesdale High School. ... Army Reserve Pvt. Jonas L. Crass has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, S.C. Pvt. Crass is the son of Debbie Grippo of Scranton, and Jonas Crass of Factoryville. He is a 2012 graduate of Wyoming Seminary. ... Civil Air Patrol cadets from the Wayne Composite Squadron 201 including: Jeffrey T. Austin, Kyle G. Drost, Anthony E. Galli, Elyse C. Guziewicz, Robert P. Klemens, Joseph P. McCoy, Theresa McCormick, Richard T. Molner Jr. Michael J. Pope III and Douglas R. Teeters have received the Wright Brothers Award for completing the first three achievements of the cadet program and a challenging examination testing leadership knowledge and proficiency in drill and ceremonies. The cadets have been promoted to the grade of cadet staff sergeant, will begin service as cadet non-commissioned officers, and continue to participate and advance as cadets in the Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol.

Jose, the Dysfunctional Leprechaun, is due to make an appearance at the Anthracite Historical Discovery Center's monthly Museum without Walls on Thursday. Jose, who recently received a certificate of appreciation from center board members including Noreene Carney, Darlene Ferraro-Ploch, Judi Mozeleski, Gail Rees and Joan Scavo, is due to entertain children during the March event. Museum without Walls events are designed for children Pre-K to Grade 5 and include art, activities and storytelling and surprise guests - like Jose. ... Duane Hinds will be welcoming guests at 5 p.m. Sunday when the March Second Sunday Vespers gets under way in St. Paul's Parish House in Montrose. Chris and Barb Buffington will be the greeters, and the Rev. Charles Cesaretti reader of the lessons. Soprano Patricia Souder, second soprano Esther Welden, and alto Sarah Birchard will present "Lift Thine Eyes" by Mendelssohn and "Take My Life and Let it Be" by Havergal. Sarah Bertsch is pianist for the service. A simple supper will follow.
