Vehicle hits home, gas meter, flees
SCRANTON - City police are investigating a crash that damaged a South Side home's gas meter late Saturday.
Acting Assistant Fire Chief Paul Triano said a dark-colored SUV drove through the lawn of 100 Penwood Drive about 11:45 p.m. After hitting the natural gas meter, which began spewing gas, the vehicle left the scene.
Police and firefighters managed to turn the gas off, officials said, but UGI crews were called to make sure there was no major damage to the gas line.
