SCRANTON - Five people were displaced after a fire at a small apartment complex Saturday night.

Around 9:15 p.m., city firefighters arrived at 1247 Diamond Ave. and found flames at the left-side door and windows of a first-floor apartment.

Acting Assistant Chief Paul Triano said crews quelled the flames but the apartment was gutted. The charred remains of a door and fragments of glass littered the sidewalk and the driveway on the left side of the building. Assistant Chief Triano said crews had knocked the door and windows out to vent the heat and smoke.

Assistant Chief Triano said a cause had not yet been found. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced people, he said.
