The original artworks were a few of the featured items at Center City Print on Penn Avenue in Scranton on Friday, where Lindsay Barrasse, 29, and Jamie Hannigan, 23, displayed their works. The two were just a few of the artists showing at shops, cafes and galleries downtown as part of First Friday.
"I think the art scene needs to be out there in Scranton," Ms. Barrasse said. "There are talented artists, and people need to see them."
All of the visitors at Center City Print enjoyed live music from Endless Roots and the art the two women had to show, including a handmade dress featuring comic book characters Ms. Barrasse wore.
Appreciation of art was why Tony Grillo and Angie Apostolaros, both of Scranton, stopped by the Artists For Art Gallery on Lackawanna Avenue.
"We like the art. I'm an artist myself," Mr. Grillo said, noting that AFA was one of their favorite spots.
"It's a nice community interaction," Ms. Apostolaros added. "You bump into your neighbors and friends."
The pair strolled along the second-floor gallery, admiring photographs in the Visions of Music display by Allison Murphy and Dino Perrucci.
Photos ranged from Bonnie Raitt and Emmylou Harris to Eric Church and Steve Martin.
"Oh, Snoop Dogg," Tomi Ploskonka, 59, of Jessup, said as she walked toward a picture of the artist now known as Snoop Lion.
She and several friends try not to miss First Friday, when more artwork and displays take center stage than on a typical afternoon.
"We have a few galleries that are open on a regular basis," Ms. Ploskonka said. "On Friday, everybody is open."
