SOUTH ABINGTON TWP. - Supervisors got their first look at a project that would bring an assisted-living and memory-care facility to a location formerly occupied by an Italian restaurant.

At a meeting Monday, Tim Aikman, the architect hired by Millett Real Estate of Scranton, presented supervisors with plans for a project that would provide housing to senior citizens and those suffering from Alzheimer's disease and other memory disorders.

Located at 1300 Morgan Highway, the former site of Amici Restaurant, the two-story assisted-living facility would house 40 senior citizens and feature a communal dining area in the basement, Mr. Aikman said.

It would be attached to a one-story memory-care facility that provides housing, treatment and support to 20.

Supervisors didn't take any action Monday, as they asked Mr. Aikman to return with a written agreement from the owner of the sewer line the facility's sewage would pass through.

Township Manager David O'Neill said supervisors also want members of the Chinchilla Hose Company to look at the plans for precautionary reasons.

"Because of the location and nature of the project, we want them to take a look for fear if anything happened, they would have proper accessibility," Mr. O'Neill said. "It's been approved by our township engineer, so, other than a few things, everything looks good."

Mr. Aikman said he hopes to start construction by April. He said he didn't know how much the project would cost or how long construction would take.

Millett Real Estate purchased the property in 2012 and demolished the building that had stood since the 1960s, officials said.
