A South Scranton man is in serious condition after he was struck by a vehicle involved in a crash as he was standing on a Moosic Street sidewalk late Saturday.

Jesus Olvera, 29, is being treated at Geisinger Community Medical Center after suffering multiple fractures, including a skull fracture, city police said. GCMC spokeswoman Wendy Wilson said late Sunday that Mr. Olvera is listed in "serious" condition.

The incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. when the driver of a Jeep Wrangler heading west on Moosic Street crashed into a green Hyundai turning left into the Sunoco Gas Station at 551 Moosic St., according to the police report.

A witness told police that after the collision, the Jeep spun and hit Mr. Olvera, who was waiting to cross the street with his wife, Martha Vasquez.

The driver of the Jeep, Jeffrey Lee McKnight, 28, of 1223 Eynon St., is charged with driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia. Neither he nor Peter Rozing, 33, 409 Arthur Ave., the driver of the Hyundai, was injured in the crash.

Mr. Rozing will be cited for careless driving/improper turning, the police report said.
