P&G's donations pass $469,000
In its 46th year of donating to the United Way in Northeast Pennsylvania, Procter & Gamble has surpassed its previous donation total. Employee and corporate giving to United Way exceeded $469,000. Locally in Susquehanna County, 242 employees joined hands to aid in raising $53,125.16. The United Way of Susquehanna County was also awarded an $11,000 corporate gift by the Procter & Gamble Fund.
Award presented: Pennsylvania Paper and Supply Co., Scranton, was awarded the 2013 Sapphire Club Premier Partner award on behalf of IPG. The award is presented to companies that achieve top goal levels within packaging divisions.
Company acquired: FNB Capital Corp. LLC has closed on a mezzanine and equity financing package that supported Elk Lake Capital LLC's acquisition of Environmental Services Laboratories Inc. and Environmental Land Surveying and Solutions Inc. ESLI was recently named among the Fastest Growing Energy/Environmental Companies in Pittsburgh for 2012 by the Pittsburgh Business Times. Both ESLI and ELS&S provide environmental testing, surveying and engineering services to municipalities, engineering firms and private industry, including oil and gas exploration and production companies operating in the Marcellus and Utica Shale regions. Elk Lake, a family office private equity firm located in Scranton, focuses on control-investment opportunities in privately held companies.
Chamber guide available: The Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce's 2013 Business & Buyers' Guide is now available. This yearly publication lists all of the chamber members and highlights membership benefits and programs. It features interviews with regional college presidents, hospital CEOs and emerging business leaders.
Retailer teams with nonprofit: Dressbarn is teaming with the nonprofit organization Dress for Success to gather 60,000 articles of clothing, as part of its SOS - Send One Suit - Weekend donation drive, March 7-10. This year's clothing drive marks the 11th consecutive year Dressbarn and Dress for Success have partnered to help women in need receive professional business attire.
Applications being accepted: The First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania is accepting applications for the 2013 Tree House Fund grant cycle. The Tree House Fund has $66,000 available for grantmaking to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in Bradford, Clinton, Lycoming, Sullivan, Susquehanna and/or Tioga counties. The Tree House Fund was established when the need for a regional fund that would benefit children in area communities was identified. Applications must be submitted by March 1 to be considered and can be found at fcfpartnership.org.
Presentation held: Penn State Wilkes-Barre Career Services held a presentation in conjunction with Penske titled "First Impressions Count." Representatives from Penske covered interviewing dos and oh-no-you-didn'ts as well as creating positive employer impressions.
Prevention education to be offered: Safe Haven of Pike County Inc. has partnered with the Verizon Foundation to offer prevention education for victims and survivors of domestic violence. Safe Haven will use a $10,000 grant from the foundation to fund its various prevention education programs specifically serving the youth of Pike County.
Office relocates: The South Campus (Wilkes-Barre) Regional Office of the Commonwealth Medical College has been relocated to Saidman Hall on the Ground Level of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, 575 N. River St., Wilkes-Barre. The office staff phone and fax numbers will remain the same.
Winery receives financing: The NEPA Alliance Small Business Loan Fund presented a check in the amount of $115,000 to the Antler Ridge Winery Inc., Waymart, from the Tri-District Loan Fund and USDA Rural Development Loan Fund to purchase land for a building.
College introduces new majors: Keystone College has introduced two new bachelor's degrees in public health and geology, both starting in the fall. For details, visit keystone.edu/academics/majors or call 877-4-College.
Nominations being accepted: The Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians is asking the public to help track down the PAFP's 2013 Family Physician of the Year - the best doctor in the commonwealth. To nominate a doctor for Family Physician of the Year, visit pafp.com/TopDoc. The nominee must be a practicing member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians. Deadline for nominations is March 11.
