Airport access road on the move
PITTSTON TWP. - A more than $40 million airport access road project is moving forward, though officials say it will be months before construction starts.
At a Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport bi-county board meeting Thursday, board members voted to enter into a land easement agreement with the state Department of Transportation, so officials can build the road on airport property.
Funded by PennDOT, the project will provide a direct route from Interstate 81 to the industrial parks adjacent to the airport.
Also included in the project is the reconstruction of Exit 178 and the creation of three roundabouts off the interstate, officials said. There is no set date for construction, but officials say it will take more than two years to complete.
