Alfieri Society gives awards
Man of the Year awards were presented to James Baress and Joseph Bevilacqua when the Victor Alfieri Society of West Scranton conducted its installation of officers and trustees.
Both men were recognized for contributions to the society and community. "Jim and Joe selflessly gave their time and talents to help in supporting 14 charities the Victor Alfieri Society donates to each year along with volunteering on many projects within the organization," Jack DeLeo reports.
Judge Robert A. Mazzoni served as principal speaker and installed the officers and trustees for 2013.
Joseph DeAntona is president; Jerry Auriemma, vice president; Peter Arvonio, treasurer; Robert Arvonio, financial secretary; Jack DeLeo, recording secretary; the Rev. Sam Ferretti, pastor, St. Lucy's Church, chaplain; Joseph Spinelli and Ron Quattrone, special advisers.
Trustees include Paul DeAntona, Louis Lanzo, Joseph Macciocco, Frank Ruggerio and Sam Tomaino.
Meeting at the bar
Attorney William J. Hall Jr. was installed as president, and attorneys Daniel Kelleher, Paul Mazzoni and John Pieski were honored for 50 years of practicing law, at the annual meeting of the Lackawanna Bar Association.
Other attorneys installed as officers of the board of directors at the meeting include Matthew P. Barrett, vice president; Mark J. Conway, treasurer; and Mary Theresa Gardier Paterson, secretary; Jane M. Carlonas, 2012 president, and Ann Lavelle Powell, 2011 president, were among those joining in on the festivities.
Attorneys Kelleher, Mazzoni and Pieski were recognized by the association for 50 years of service to the courts of Lackawanna County and the U.S.Middle District of Pennsylvania.

James Yi has been named chairman of the 2013 Lackawanna County Heart Ball, which is scheduled Saturday, Feb. 23, at 6 p.m. at the Radisson at Lackawanna Station hotel. James is the owner of Summit Perfusions in Clarks Summit and also is a member of the regional heart team under the direction of Dr. Lear VonKoch at Regional Hospital of Scranton. The annual black-tie event raises funds for the American Heart Association. ... Richard Roani was presented with a plaque for his pro bono teaching of the Italian language by the Keystone UNICO chapter's Italian class at a monthly meeting. PA II District Governor Tom Gatto was at the meeting to present PA II UNICO National Past District Governor Peter Noto with his pin and life membership and Fred Mitchell with his 25 year membership pin.
