Carbondale

Wear pajamas to win an alien.

That's the deal in Carbondale, where the inaugural Presidents' Pajama Pants Prance will be held on Sunday. The winner of the race will receive an award and bragging rights, and become caretaker of Carbon D. Alien for the year.

"The alien part of the theme came from all the popularity that the alien received in the WVIA documentary 'Our Town,'" said Christine Tocki-Mulvey, the city's director of community and economic development.

Proceeds from the 1-mile walk/run will benefit the Carbondale Route 6 task force on tourism, she added. The task force hopes to create an event for each season in the Route 6 Heritage Community.

"We had a couple projects on the table that could really promote the whole heritage tourism theme," Mrs. Tocki-Mulvey said. "We don't have the funds to implement those projects yet."

Clarks Summit

For the second time since August, borough council named the National Running Center as the "Best Commercial Recycler."

At their meeting Wednesday, borough council members presented representatives from the shoe and clothing apparel store at 318 Davis St. with a certificate, honoring them for their success.

The winner of the monthly award, which is presented to the business that recycles the most days of the month, is allowed to park at two parking meters for the rest of the month for free.

"They are doing a tremendous job and are taking advantage of a great opportunity," Councilwoman Patty Lawler said.

La Plume

The "Dating Doctor" will be making a house call at Keystone College.

The college will host author and expert David Coleman for a lecture called "Making Relationships Matter" on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Theatre in Brooks. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Mr. Coleman is the author of several acclaimed books and CDs, including "Great Dates," "Date Smart," "Prescriptions for Life and Relationships" and, most recently, "Making Relationships Matter."

He has been featured in national publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, Celebrity Living, Us Magazine, Women's World and Women's Health.

Taylor

After four years of successful pasta dinners, the United Baptist Church of Taylor has its eyes set on a fifth.

On Saturday, March 2, the church will host its annual fundraiser dinner, said ticket handler Marie Eskra.

Takeout food will be available from 3 to 4 p.m., while the all-you-can-eat dinner will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tickets will range from $9 for adults to $5 for children.

But money raised is not the most important part, she said.

"We enjoy the fellowship," Ms. Eskra said. "And the food is all homemade, every bit of it."

About 400 people come throughout the day for dinner or for takeout.

Those who stay at the church for the dinner usually number between 200 and 250.

"They sit around and talk and visit with the people," Ms. Eskra said. "A lot of families come."
