Some parents of Scranton elementary school students received a voice mail warning them about a suspicious man lurking near a bus stop who may have followed students Thursday afternoon.

The voice mail parents received today said the man tried to get them into a black four-door car and chased them.

Superintendent Bill King said elementary school parents were alerted after four 4th grade girls from Neil Armstrong Elementary School said a man started following them from a bus stop on Wayne Avenue. They ran to a nearby friend's house, Mr. King said.

This morning, a girl said she thought she saw the same man driving in the same car slowly past the same bus stop, Mr. King said.

The man was described as dark-skinned, wearing a black and gray striped hat and gray sweatsuit.

The voice mail from the district said that all students had been alerted about the situation by administrators and parents were encouraged to speak to their children about the dangers of speaking with strangers over the weekend.

Mr. King said Scranton police were notified and patrolled the areas today.

Check back for updates.
