Woman arrested; didn't like car
A South Abington Twp. woman who smashed the glass roof of a car with a beer bottle, swung her cane at police officers and then pulled a 9-inch razor from her pocket was arrested Wednesday morning, township police said.
Nancy Pivovarnik, 65, 910 Fairview Road, stood on Fairview Road clutching a beer bottle and a shovel just before 9:30 a.m. when she stopped a Chevrolet Camaro driven by Zane Dsilva and asked him if he liked his car, according to a criminal complaint.
When Mr. Dsilva replied, "Yes," Ms. Pivovarnik hit the windshield with the beer bottle, then smashed the glass T-top of the vehicle, leaving the bottle and shards of glass in his car, police said.
Police alerted the Lackawanna County Crisis Intervention Team and obtained a mental health warrant for the woman. She had returned to her home but approached a police vehicle, at which time officers tried to speak with her, police said.
Ms. Pivovarnik became increasingly aggressive and upset while talking with police, struggling when police attempted to restrain her and swinging her cane at South Abington Twp. Police Chief Robert Gerrity, then pulling a 9-inch razor from her pants pocket, police said.
Once she was placed in handcuffs and leg shackles, the woman spit on an EMS responder before being placed in the ambulance and taken to a hospital, police said.
Ms. Pivovarnik was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, propulsion of missiles into an occupied vehicle and criminal mischief, according to the criminal complaint.
Arraignment information was unavailable Thursday night.
