Magisterial District Judge Martin Kane approved a search warrant application filed today by Wilkes-Barre police, who requested to seize additional items in connection with the Dec. 21 hit-and-run crash that killed 5-year-old Kevin Miller at North and North Franklin streets.
Police requested additional searches of a 1999 red Pontiac Grand Am being held at Wilkes-Barre police headquarters.
The vehicle was seized Jan. 4 from the home of 22-year-old Thomas W. Letteer Jr., 9 Mack St., Plains Township. Authorities identified Letteer as a "person of interest" in the case, but he has not yet been charged.
Police asked to seize evidence, including a data recorder, and to perform a post-collision safety inspection, including measurements and photography, crash data retrieval, inspection of tires, wheels, brakes, lighting and all safety-related equipment, according to the search warrant application. A state-certified expert plans to mechanically inspect the vehicle further, according to police.
Miller was killed by a hit-and-run car while leaving a Christmas party with his parents.
