New Year, New You Chamber luncheon

A panel discussion titled New Year, New You, was featured when the Greater Scranton Women's Network continued its program series Strong Women Leading Today at the Radisson at Lackawanna Station hotel.

Guest speaker Joe Palko, owner of Core Fitness and Rehab Inc., offered ways "to invigorate you to a healthier and happier 2013." At this bonus luncheon, attendees, including Mari R. Potis from the chamber, Beth Wolff of Penn Security Bank and Trust and Karoline Mehalchick of Oliver, Price & Rhodes, had the opportunity to browse and sample products and services offered by fellow members. Also on hand for the event was Core Fitness and Rehab's Charlie Davis.

Super students

Stephanie Rescigno, a sophomore at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, has returned from a seven-day pilgrimage to Italy with the university's Chapel Choir. The 42 students sang at a papal Mass celebrated by Pope Benedict XVI at St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, in the Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi and performed a public concert for the city of Rome in the Church of St. Ignatius. The Chapel Choir also took part in an audience with the pope, at which they performed a musical selection. Stephanie, a graduate of Scranton Prep, is a psychology major in the honors program and a member of the Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. She is the daughter of Mike and Ginny Rescigno of Olyphant. … Elizabeth R. Cosgrove of Scranton has qualified for membership in Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society at Marquette University's College of Business Administration. A Scranton Prep graduate, Elizabeth is the daughter of Gene and Judy Cosgrove.

High notes

Members of the Northeast Pennsylvania affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, including affiliate coordinator Joy Kropiewnicki, volunteer coordinators MaryAnn and John Pluciennik; education and outreach coordinator Teresa Grabowski, advocacy coordinator Shannon Taylor, media representative Susan Blum Connors, affiliate spokesman Jim Connors and events coordinator Jackie Degnan, met for a core team workshop with Natalie Radtke, regional affiliate manager from California. During the gathering, they also discussed plans for a meet-and-greet at Hampton Inn on Montage Mountain, Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. … Duane Hinds will welcome guests to the February Second Sunday Vesper Service, Feb. 10, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Montrose. Susan Newhart and Jennie Bowen will serve as greeters. Musicians will include Lyn Newbrander, soprano soloist, and Sarah Bertsch, organist. Patricia Souder is reader for the ecumenical service.
