State police plan DUI checkpoint

DUNMORE - State police at Dunmore announced troopers will set up DUI checkpoints this weekend.

There will be roving patrols and sobriety checkpoints throughout Lackawanna County from Friday through Monday in an effort to protect the public from intoxicated drivers, police said.

Wayne bridge will undergo repairs

BEACH LAKE - New weight restrictions have been placed on a Wayne County bridge that spans the Delaware River.

A 15-ton 27 combination weight restriction was implemented on Narrowsburg Bridge on Route 652 east of Beach Lake, the state Department of Transportation announced.

Repairs are scheduled to begin in mid-March and the bridge will be restricted to a single lane of traffic throughout the day, and opened to two lanes at night, though weight limits will remain in effect.

PennDOT anticipates the temporary repairs will take until at least 2015, when permanent repairs are scheduled to begin on the bridge.

Luzerne trying to consolidate banks

WILKES-BARRE - Luzerne County is seeking proposals for consolidated banking services.

The county has more than 100 bank accounts with at least seven banks, acting Treasurer Dominic DePolo said. The county wants to consolidate those accounts with one or two banks, Mr. DePolo said.

Bank consolidation was one of the goals of the Luzerne County Government Study Commission, which wrote the county's home-rule charter in 2010.

The charter established a new form of government last year and eliminated seven independent row offices run by elected officials. Those row offices maintained their own bank accounts.

Proposals are due Feb. 21, according to a published advertisement.
