Action delayed on drug policy

MILFORD - Oral arguments scheduled for Monday on whether Delaware Valley School District's controversial student drug- testing policy should be permanently banned by judicial decree were delayed because of bad weather.

The American Civil Liberties Union is asking Pike County President Judge Joseph F. Kameen to make permanent a temporary ban he enacted in 2011 preventing the district from enforcing initial mandatory and random alcohol and drug tests for students participating in extracurricular activities.

The ACLU sued the school on behalf of two students and their parents, spurring the judicial actions.

ACLU spokeswoman Sara Mullen said bad weather caused the delay. A new date has not been announced.
