Sentence delayed in fatal stabbing
SCRANTON - The Friday sentencing of a Carbondale man who pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter for fatally stabbing a young man at a Jessup park was delayed because he hired new attorneys.
From Lackawanna County Prison, Dylan Michael Ostrowski, 20, appeared for sentencing before Judge Robert A. Mazzoni for the stabbing of Lawrence Atkinson, 18, of Jessup, at Kids Korner playground on Nov. 16, 2011. Before he retained Michael Engle of Philadelphia and Philip Gelso of Kingston, Mr. Ostrowski was represented by Paul Walker.
Mr. Walker arranged a plea deal with county prosecutors that resulted in several charges being dropped, including first- and third-degree murder, likely leading to a less severe prison sentence.
Mr. Gelso asked for the delay because they need time to review the case. He declined to elaborate.
