An environmental advocacy group is urging state regulators to pause operations at a Susquehanna County natural gas compressor station because the Department of Environmental Protection did not formally respond to public comments before issuing an air quality permit.
The Clean Air Council asked the DEP this week to temporarily halt construction and operations at Williams Field Services' Central Compressor Station in Brooklyn Twp. until it finishes and distributes a comment and response document.
"It is a violation of Pennsylvania law to issue a plan approval before responding to all public comments in a meaningful way," the group's executive director Joseph Otis Minott wrote. He said the DEP "has violated this procedure" more than once.
A public hearing was held in August to discuss the three-engine station and a permit was issued on Jan. 7.
A DEP spokesman did not respond to a request for comment on Friday.
