No appeal of
commuter tax
SCRANTON - The city won't appeal a three-judge panel's rejection of the city's request for a commuter tax, Mayor Chris Doherty said.
A petition by the city for a 1 percent commuter tax was rejected last month by a panel of Lackawanna County Court judges.
The window of time for an appeal to be filed has run out, with the city deciding not to pursue one.
Even if the city had sought an appeal, it likely would not have been heard or ruled upon until much later in the year, he said. So, even if the city were to have prevailed, the matter would have become moot for this year, he said.
