A suspended Wayne Highlands elementary teacher admitted in Susquehanna County Court on Friday to sexually assaulting a boy in incidents that occurred in 2005-06, before his employment as a teacher.

Kyle Justin Cobb, 28, Union Dale, pleaded guilty to one felony count of statutory sexual assault and one misdemeanor count of indecent assault of a person under the age of 13.

Charges were lodged against Mr. Cobb in March 2012. He was immediately suspended without pay by the school district. Mr. Cobb had been teaching in the district at Lakeside Elementary for about two years before the victim came forward to police.

Mr. Cobb assaulted the child at a residence and farm in Herrick Twp., police said. The boy was 11 to 13 years old at the time of the assaults which occurred during visits with Mr. Cobb's family.

The victim, now over the age of 18, resides outside of the area.

The Times-Tribune does not identify the victims of sexual assault.

Mr. Cobb told police in a March 24 interview that he had engaged in oral sex with the child on one occasion and another assault occurred while the two were riding four-wheelers on the property.

Although Mr. Cobb faces up to 15 years in prison on the counts, as part of a plea agreement, he could spend only 1½ years behind bars.

President Judge Kenneth Seamans noted he would honor the plea agreement reached between Mr. Cobb and the district attorney's office.

Mr. Cobb remains free on bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced in April.
